Sector 18 Market is Noida’s Connaught Place

SK Jain, President, Sector 18 Market Association

Noida's Sector 18 market, despite competition from malls and online platforms, maintains its relevance due to its adaptability, unique street shopping appeal, and strong family-oriented footfall. Its enduring popularity stems from excellent metro connectivity, diverse retail options, and numerous attractive shopping plazas, selfie points, amphitheatres, Times Square-like areas, LED screens, banks, restaurants, garment accessories, and mobile and jewellery hubs.

With metro connectivity bringing in significant daily traffic from Delhi and other NCR areas, the market is always bustling with activities. There is consistently high footfall even on normal days. People come from far and wide to shop in this market every day. The open-air street shopping experience is creating a vibe that malls and online platforms cannot replicate.

Family-centric marketing hub

The market has transformed from youth-focused cafes and apparel to family-centric shops offering everything from jewellery (over 40 stores), optics, and electronics to restaurants. I believe that this transformation has sustained businesses in this oldest Noida market.

Last year alone, at least 25 new jewellery stores, several optical outlets, family restaurants, and electronics shops opened, occupying over 1,000 shops. Notably, a few years ago there were around 20 jewellery showrooms, but now there are more than 40, and they cater to both young people and families. The pattern has shifted from market dominance by a few players to symbiotic retail integration.

This transformation has brought a youth-centric vibrancy along with a family-friendly atmosphere. New jewellery stores, optical shops, electronics stores and restaurants have filled up the vacant spaces, increasing family footfall and attracting visitors from the NCR and beyond.

The Connaught Place of Noida

These shops needed the vibrant, open-market atmosphere of a more attractive high street market which has been achieved to a large extent.

Besides cafes, restaurants, parlours, jewellery stores, watch shops, sweet shops, mobile phone stores, fashion brands, wellness centres, gift shops, and shops selling electronics, electrical goods, accessories and kids' items, the market's selfie points, metro connectivity and pedestrian-friendly roads, is reshaping the shopping experience. I also want a uniform policy across all markets and malls to protect small traders.

What’s Ahead

Demographic shift, location and improved sanitation is supporting businesses in this market and also generating high revenue for Uttar Pradesh. The Sector 18 Market Association is collaborating with the Noida Authority, police, and other relevant departments to make the market more attractive and a high-class shopping destination. We are working to resolve issues like parking and traffic congestion.
