Gautam Buddha Nagar Police hold 165 ‘peace meetings’ across Noida, Greater Noida

The meetings were held across Noida and Greater Noida to appeal for calm, communal harmony and cooperation, keeping the festival season in mind

Ahead of the festival of Holi, the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionerate organised 165 peace committee meetings with residents and community leaders of Noida, Central Noida, and Greater Noida on Saturday. The purpose was to appeal for calm and communal harmony.

The police convened a total of 49 meetings at nine police station areas in Noida zone, 50 across eight police stations in Central Noida, and 66 across nine police station areas in Greater Noida zone, as per a Hindustan Times report.

Sector 108 Police Commissionerate also hosted a meet-up with eminent citizens from different police station areas of the district on Friday. The meeting was convened by Additional Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Rajeev Narain Mishra, who urged them to celebrate Holi in a peaceful, safe and harmonious manner, keeping in view the need for mutual brotherhood, social harmony and responsible behaviour.

The ACP said in a statement that the police are directed to ensure the celebration of Holi is conducted peacefully. There will be deployment and monitoring of in sensitive areas across the district.

The Police administration issued a warning against the spread of misinformation and rumours through social media platforms. Officials also warned against strict legal action for circulating misleading information or content aimed at conflagrating religious sentiments or disturbing the peace amongst the public. Unverified information, suspicious activity or potential law and order issues are to be reported to the police immediately.

The meetings took place under the directions of Police Commissioner of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Laxmi Singh and were led by three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) across zones.
