As Temperature Soars, Sales of Summer Products Surge
February this year was the warmest in the last three years, leading to a rise in sales of beverages, ice creams, air conditioners and other summer products
With the early start of summer this year, there’s a 25-30% increase in sales of beverages, ice-creams, and air-conditioners compared to February last year. It is expected that this momentum would continue till September, unlike last year when sales of summer-oriented products plunged more than half in the February-September period, the Economic Times reported.
According to the India Meteorological Department and private agency Skymet Weather, the summer season has started sooner than usual, with temperatures already reaching 31 degrees Celsius in several regions. Delhi recorded the warmest February in the last three years with mercury climbing to 31.9 degrees last week, which was six degrees above normal.
The early onset of the summer has provided a tailwind to the beverage industry, as an industry expert noted from the bottling industry. A similar trend has been in the sales of air conditioners and other home appliances. Voltas’ managing director, Mukundan Menon, who manufactures ACs and appliances, informed the Economic Times that the summer has picked up the threads with projections of about 20% growth over last year. Mukundan mentioned that they have an existing capacity of a million units, which shall take care of the requirements, as far as room ACs are concerned.
Also in the frame are cold chain, distribution, and infrastructure sectors, where they are pulling all the stops as summer season trends have kicked up a storm early.
