Discussions to hold the second edition of the Indian Moto Grand Prix (GP) race at Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Yamuna City’s Sector-25 have begun in Lucknow. According to a Hindustan report, officials in Lucknow are planning the next edition of the Indian Moto GP race this year.
A high-level meeting between officials took place on Wednesday in the administrative capital of the state, Lucknow. The agenda of the meeting, as reported by Hindustan, was to take stock of the situation and the level of preparedness and the future course of action of the race event. Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), CEO, RK Singh, joined the meeting via video conferencing.
Dorna Sports, a Spanish-based company, is the parent body that organises Moto GP. It is the commercial rights holder of Moto GP. In India, the event’s promoter, Fairstreet Sports’ contract with Dorna Sports has been signed for seven years. But in 2023, due to financial irregularities, the racing event could not take place again. Back in 2023, the UP Government made Invest UP the nodal agency.
Ever since the inaugural edition of the Indian Moto Grand Prix race that took place in September 2023 at BIC, there has been a constant curiosity among fans whether the Indian edition of the race would ever happen again. Wednesday’s meeting in Lucknow examined the experience of the inaugural edition of the race. The officials expressed a positive outlook towards reviving the Indian edition of the Moto GP race.
In another development, the Japan Super Formula race is also in talks with Japan Race Promotion Corporation, whereby the team inspected the BIC circuit as well. These races happen in Japan only. Now talks are on to organise the event in India also. Japan Super Formula is on the lines of Formula One, the ultimate racing event in the world, where talented racers from across the world come to compete in the race. The race exhibits cars clocking speeds of up to 300 km/hr. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also inspected the race track in the city, wherein he scrutinised the facilities. He emphasised the need to upgrade the infrastructure and to organise world-class events. In this way, the Yamuna City would get long-standing exposure and recognition.
If the agreement is reached between the organisers of Japan Super Formula and Indian officials, then Indian Motorsports would get another opportunity to host. YEIDA CEO Singh informed the media after the meeting that the discussion was exhaustive and positive.
