Noida To Have A Civil Defence Unit Shortly
A pool of trained volunteers will assist the Noida police during festivals, fairs and natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and other public welfare campaigns
Noida will set up its own civil defence unit soon. The Noida ad is inviting applications for the purpose. The residents are called upon to volunteer for roles which shall not be paid under the civil defence corps. According to a Times of India report, Additional District Magistrate (judicial) and Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, Priyanka, mentioned that the purpose of the drive is to create a pool of trained volunteers who can assist the police during festivals, fairs and natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes, and other public welfare campaigns.
Civil defence units across the country had held a nationwide drill last year in May. Noida was among the few districts that did not take part as it did not have a unit. However, mock drills were still conducted in Gautam Buddha Nagar on the directives of the state government. The evacuation drills were conducted by NCC, NSS units and factory staff.
The officials reasoned that the lack of a civil defence unit in the district was because GB Nagar is comparatively new to Ghaziabad, which has its own civil defence establishment.
Those residents who are interested can obtain and submit their application forms at room number 16 in person at the Collectorate office in Surajpur, Greater Noida. As per the norms, an applicant should be a citizen of India between 18 and 60 years of age. Applicants need to have a high school education, and moreover, they ought to be physically and mentally fit. Applicants should have a clean criminal record and must not be associated with any political party. The applicant should also be a respected member of their local community, as per the officials.
The ADM reiterated that all positions are voluntary and have no remuneration. Once the applications are received, police verification and medical fitness test will be conducted. The ones found fit in both processes shall be appointed. Volunteers who are selected may be assigned to different roles within the civil defence hierarchy.
The ADM said that the appointments to these various positions will be made by the District Magistrate, under whom the civil defence control comes.
